Written by Kris Gunnars, BSc on June 9, Eating healthy and losing weight seems downright impossible for many people. Despite their best intentions, they repeatedly find themselves eating large amounts of unhealthy foods, despite knowing that it is causing them harm. Food addiction is a very serious problem and one of the main reasons some people just can’t control themselves around certain foods, no matter how hard they try. What Is Food Addiction?

If you are married to an addict or alcoholic, not only do you suffer from watching the person you love go down the tubes, you are directly effected. You have to deal with the person you love behaving irrationally, getting sick, perhaps lying , cheating or any other number of unacceptable behaviors and, on top of that, you are legally bound to this person. That means that you bear the brunt and are on the hook for any damage they may cause.
No doubt, addiction is one of the greatest challenges a marriage will face.
Sound like a person high on drugs or completely drunk? Absolutely — communication behaviors are among the first ways you can tell a person is being affected by drugs. When a person succumbs to a drug addiction, they suffer from poor communication for days, months, even years. It may take drug treatment and some patience for a drug addict to really learn how to communicate clearly.
The Basics Of Clear Communication You may be surprised to know how many things need to work in unison for one person to clearly communicate with another. You need skills, good environmental conditions, and a listener who listens. First of all, the mind must be clear enough to form the message, know who to send it to, and make their body respond accurately. Also, the message must be clear enough that once it is heard it can be quickly interpreted.
The emotion behind a message makes a large impact on how it is interpreted. One phrase could have several different undertones when said with difference vocal tones and emotions. The receiver must also be aware, responsive, and adaptive enough to first know there is a message being sent to them. Almost instantaneously, they must also interpret and decypher the message. They decide whether they understood it clearly, if a response is necessary, and then how to answer back to the message sender.
And if there is anything like extra noise, distractions, or too much distance between the message sender and the intended receiver, lots of misunderstandings are likely to happen.

These people have a strong personal and social interest in an entirely nonphysiological model of addictive human behavior. Their perspective of social problems is based primarily on a philosophical orientation with a social perspective, heralding socio-political correctness as its goal. Throughout history, a great many people and institutions have tried to help alcoholics and addicts. Currently, there are thousands of different programs in the United States trying to help those people who have a social or personal problem with drugs or alcohol.
Yet, the success rate for these programs is extraordinarily low considering the effort and investment made. There are countless reasons why these programs are not working, however the main reason is yet to be realized. Existing programs are not working because they’re based on false assumptions of philosophy and human nature. They do not address the motivations and emotions of addictions.
Today, drug treatment and rehabilitation centers are typically operating on the belief that social or philosophical factors are causing the addictive behavior, and that if we could change an addict’s belief system, or his social support structure we could end his addictive behavior. And yet, the success an individual attains, typically doesn’t last as long as the treatment. This superficial view comes from our governmental and religious orientations which maintain that addiction is the result of bad personal choices, weak character, and anti-social or irreligious behaviors.
These are not useless perspectives in our attempts to improve the human condition. However, in solving the pervasive problems which have deep roots in our human motivations and emotions, we must see that socially based perspectives have little to offer.
